Unusual and Original Dials

Carbon Fibers

Carbon fiber cloth is a weaved pattern of pure carbon molecular chains. Individual carbon fibers are 10 times thinner than a human hair, and the strongest manmade material to date. Carbon fiber cloth gets its shimmer from light being reflected off the individual fibers that are grouped by the hundred into strands. These strands, or the weave of a cloth, present a wonderfully textured surface, and can be manipulated to form different, more interesting patterns than the standard, bland original.

Having built many custom, large, items out of carbon fiber as a composite boat builder, I have the experience and knowledge to dig deep into what is possible when it comes to including this material into watch decorating… I am currently looking for a patron that can commission a time gage with a carbon fiber motif that would challenge my imagination and test my skills. There is true great potential here, just waiting for an outlet. Don’t be shy… If you are a collector interested in a unique piece, don’t hesitate to contact me on this matter!

Leather

Leather is a wonderful material for dial making! It has its own organic textures, many different finishes, and can easily be worked. Leather is too supple by itself, so a thin metal base dial is used for support. I have employed it with great success in quite a few time gages, and look forward to doing so in the future.

Textiles

Why not a silk dial, and why not combine it with carbon fiber indices and hands?

…or a partial mesh dial?

…maybe a circuit board look?

…or even good, quality paper…

…honestly, the possibilities are endless! I’m always looking forward to coming up with the next oddball dial…
